Atelier Yan Pei Ming. Paris

Tomorrow, the exhibition of Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming opens in the Galerie Ropac. His trademark style is large monochrome portraits in grey and red hues, with intensity of expression in his brushwork. The subjects of his pieces are usually political leaders such as Barack Obama or Mao Tse-Tung, anonymous soldiers, celebrities like Bruce Lee or Lady Gaga, self-portraits, female prisoners and serial killers or historical figures.

Two weeks ago, I was able to visit his studio in Paris, where I tasted a delicious Chinese lunch. Many of the works I encountered there can now be seen in the exhibition 'Help!'
I was especially enamoured with the powerful, fiercely attractive large-scale portraits.
